Anytime you visit a new veterinary clinic, it can come with a lot of questions. Where do I go when I get there? What will happen during my appointment? Will I get to speak with the veterinarian? How long will I be there?

Whether you are a long time client of Butte Veterinary Center, or you are coming for your very first visit, we want you to feel at ease walking through our doors.

It Starts When You Walk Through the Door

When you walk through our front doors, our reception team will greet you and check you in. Checking in consists of getting a weight for your pet, and likely placing you in an exam room. Every appointment and every patient is different, so things can look a little different depending what your pet is here for!

Your Pet's Appointment Is a Team Effort

Once you're placed in an exam room for your appointment, you'll typically spend time with one of our veterinary technicians before seeing the veterinarian. Our veterinary technicians play a very important role in your pet's visit. They gather information, help with your pet's care, communicate with the veterinarian, and help keep everything moving throughout the appointment.

You may be asked a few questions about your pet and what you've noticed at home. Don't worry about whether something seems important enough to mention. Sometimes the little details are helpful, and we'd rather hear too much than miss something that matters.

You will then meet with your veterinarian to discuss your concerns and your pet's overall health, and develop a plan. We believe the conversation can be just as important as the physical exam. You know your pet better than anyone, so what you have noticed at home is an important part of the visit.

We Want You to Ask Questions

There is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to your pet.

Veterinary medicine can involve unfamiliar terminology, recommendations, and sometimes a lot of information all at once. Our goal is to explain things in a way that makes sense and give you an opportunity to ask questions along the way.

If you don't understand something, ask.

If you're worried about something, tell us.

If you need us to explain something again, that's okay too.

Good veterinary care isn't just about caring for the patient. It's about making sure the people responsible for that pet understand what is happening and feel comfortable with the plan.

What Happens If Your Pet Needs More Than an Exam?

Sometimes an appointment is straightforward. Other times, your veterinarian may recommend additional testing, treatment, or a follow-up appointment.

When that happens, we'll talk with you about what we've found and why we are making a particular recommendation. Whenever possible, we'll discuss your options and help you understand what comes next.

Our goal isn't to overwhelm you with information or make decisions for you. It's to give you the information you need to make informed decisions for your pet.

Before You Leave

Before heading home, our team will make sure you know everything you need to know about the rest of your pet's care.

Depending on your visit, that might include medications, at home-care instructions, scheduling a recheck, or simply knowing when your pet should come back for their next routine visit.

And if you get home and realize you forgot to ask something?

Give us a call.

We know that sometimes the questions don't come to mind until you're sitting at home with your pet. We're happy to help when we can.

Every Visit Is a Little Different

One of the things we love about veterinary medicine is that no two days—and no two patients—are exactly alike.

A routine wellness visit looks different from a sick-pet appointment. A puppy's first visit looks different from an appointment for a senior dog. Some days are calm and predictable, while others require our entire team to work together quickly.

But regardless of why you are here, our goal remains the same: to provide your pet with thoughtful, compassionate care while making sure you feel heard and supported along the way.

We're Glad You're Here

Choosing a veterinarian is a big decision. You're trusting us with a member of your family, and we don't take that responsibility lightly.

Whether you've been bringing your pets to Butte Vet Center for years or you're walking through our doors for the very first time, we want you to feel welcome.

We're here to care for your pets, answer your questions, and be a resource for you throughout their lives.

Have a question about your upcoming visit? Give our team a call—we're happy to help.
